To develop comprehensive professional expectations for MP3.0 practice through intentional regulations, guidelines, and accreditation.
Smart Regulations are science-based regulations that provide clear and reasonable guidance that will increase patient safety and lead to better patient outcomes. The role of the Smart Regulations subcommittee is to interface with other entities within AAPM to provide suggestions and to help focus broader issues that may beyond the the scope of individual groups.
The primary vehicle for AAPM to achieve science-based clear, and reasonable regulations is through the Medical Physics Practice Guidelines (MPPG). However, there is a lack of adoption of MPPGs by regulatory and accrediting organizations.
